Look what I stumbled upon today at Literati Bookstore in downtown Ann Arbor, a little reminder of what fear can cause and why we need to be vigilant.

“When we’re afraid, we lose all sense of analysis and reflection. Our fear paralyzes us. Besides, fear has always been the driving force behind all dictators’ repression.” –from The Complete Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi

I’d never heard of the author or the book, but I knew right away I wanted to share these words here. It turns out that The Complete Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi, is a graphic novel, a very famous graphic novel–and so I have just revealed a very large gap in my literary knowledge.

But aren’t gaps in our knowledge we didn’t even know we had one of the reasons we go into bookstores, pick up books, and read them? I think I have may have just found my introduction to graphic novels. I’ll report back. Meanwhile, if you’re familiar with The Complete Persepolis, please share your thoughts here.

And thanks Literati!
